Gilles Marini Gives Top Style Tips

The 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which honors the media for their outstanding representations of the LGBT community, had no shortage of stylish men and women. But no one exemplified classic style more than French born actor Gilles Marini. He has appeared in television series', such as Brothers and Sisters, Ugly Betty and Nip/Tuck to go along with his iconic towel scene in Sex and the City: The Movie. For over 25 years, The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has worked with news, entertainment and social media to bring culture-changing stories of LGBT people into millions of homes and workplaces every day, ensuring positive images while working to cultivate acceptance, understanding and support. Marini spoke with RCT reporter, Carly Steel, about the importance of GLAAD’s mission to promote the LGBT community in a positive light. He stated that it is important to not show someone having violent action taken against them just because they are gay. “Personally I love the community they’ve been incredible to my family and myself for a long time," he says. Marini’s top style tip is to “take a picture of yourself and project it 20 years, and if you look silly then change.” Marini follows the ‘less is more’ mantra preferring the classic suit and watch combination over the "wild styles" of today. Even when following his own rules, he never steps out of the house without the seal of approval. “My wife is helping me for everything. I always ask ‘is that OK,’ she tells me yes [or] no”.
